About the role
As the Senior Manager Governance and Support you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation, performance and continuous improvement of the Governance & Support function within the Customer Group.
Reporting to the Head of Governance & Support, you will lead governance, quality assurance, training, knowledge management and support services teams to ensure you deliver effective, compliant and customer-focused outcomes.
You will be accountable for translating strategic direction into operational delivery, leading leaders and specialist teams, and managing key external provider relationships to strengthen capability, controls and customer outcomes.
Key responsibilities
1. Functional Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day operation and performance of the Governance & Support function.
- Translate strategic priorities into operational plans and measurable outcomes.
- Establish and monitor service standards, performance measures and business objectives.
- Ensure resources and priorities are aligned to Customer Group needs.
2. Governance, Risk and Quality Assurance
- Lead governance frameworks, controls, policies and procedures across the Customer Group.
- Accountable for the delivery and continuous improvement of the Quality Assurance Framework.
- Oversee assurance reviews, audits, risk assessments and remediation activities.
- Monitor compliance obligations and address emerging risks, control weaknesses and systemic issues.
- Ensure assurance outcomes result in sustainable business improvements.
3. Capability and Knowledge Management
- Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of capability, coaching, accreditation and knowledge management services.
- Ensure capability frameworks, learning pathways and knowledge resources support business requirements.
- Monitor effectiveness and implement improvements that strengthen workforce capability and operational performance.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
4. Continuous Improvement and External Provider Management
- Lead initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen controls and enhance customer outcomes.
- Drive improvements arising from assurance activities, customer feedback and business priorities.
- Manage operational relationships with external providers and strategic partners.
- Monitor provider performance and identify opportunities to improve outcomes and realise value.
- Support the delivery and embedding of business transformation initiatives.
5. People Leadership
- Lead, develop and support managers, team leaders and specialist employees.
- Build organisational capability through leadership development, talent management and succession planning.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, inclusion and wellbeing.
- Identify and develop future leaders to support business continuity and growth.
Specific duties, deliverables and reporting lines may vary from time to time dependant on business needs and priorities. Key objectives and measurements will be captured in the Performance & Development planning cycle, established annually and adapted as needed.
What we’re looking for
- Sound judgement and decision-making capability, with the confidence to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity and resolve complex business challenges.
- Strong operational leadership skills, with the ability to translate strategic direction into clear priorities, execution plans and measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team within a complex operating environment
- A proven people leader with the ability to lead leaders, build capability and create a high-performing, accountable and engaged culture.
- A strong understanding of governance, risk, assurance and compliance, with the ability to embed effective controls while supporting operational performance.
- A track record of driving continuous improvement, strengthening business performance and delivering sustainable outcomes for customers and stakeholders.
- Highly developed stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external providers.
- Understanding of change management frameworks with the ability to support the business through periods of change.
- Ability to understand and support legislated member outcomes
