Job Description

  • Position Type: 12 month fixed term with potential for extension or permanency
  • Location: Canberra or Sydney

About the role  

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Operations Engineer Lead to take ownership of maintaining and enhancing the performance, reliability, and security of CSC’s network infrastructure.

In this key leadership role, you will guide a team of Network Engineers, drive the implementation of best practices, and collaborate across departments to ensure the efficient operation of our IT networks. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in network architecture, troubleshooting, and deployment of advanced network technologies, alongside strong people management and project leadership skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor Network Engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture whilst providing technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Design, implement, and manage LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless infrastructures
  • Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Monitor network performance to ensure reliability and uptime, including diagnosing and resolving network issues
  • Implement and maintain network security controls
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry regulations and maintain accurate documentation and procedures
  • Lead and deliver network-related projects on time and within budget
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on upgrades and new deployments
  • Manage vendor relationships and external service providers

What we’re looking for  

  • Australian Citizen with the ability to hold and maintain a baseline clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/related field or relevant working experience
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE) highly desirable
  • 7+ years’ experience in network engineering or related roles
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and network services (DNS, DHCP)
  • Hands-on experience with network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Dell, etc.)
  • Proficient in network security principles and best practice
  • Experienced with network monitoring and performance tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; thrives under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to all audiences
